Deepika Padukone has come a long way after making her dream Bollywood debut in 2007, through Shah Rukh Khan's "Om Shanti Om".
After almost seven years in the industry, she is one of the most in-demand actresses in India today. In fact, she became the first actress in Bollywood with four back-to-back films that crossed the ₹100-crore mark, that too in a single year.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that Deepika is the first actress in Bollywood history to have achieved the feat. Her films "Race 2", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Chennai Express" and "Ram-leela", which were released this year, joined the ₹100 crore club.
Here are box office collection figures of Deepika's 2013 releases, according to Bollywood Hungama:
1) "Race 2": The action-thriller featuring featured Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Deepika and Jacqueline Fernandez became the first Bollywood film to cross the ₹100-crore mark this year. The Abbas-Mustan directorial earned ₹15.12 crore on its opening day and went on to collect ₹100.45 crore.
2) "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani": The hype around the film was huge, as it featured ex-lovers Deepika and Ranbir Kapoor in lead roles. The Ayan Mukerji directorial collected ₹19.45 crore on the opening day and went on to earn ₹188.57 crore.
3) "Chennai Express": Released on 9 August (8 August at overseas), the film - featuring Shah Rukh and Deepika - earned ₹227.13 crore at the domestic box office. It broke many records, including the biggest opening ever in Bollywood with ₹33.12 crore and it also was the fastest film to cross both the ₹100-crore mark and ₹200-crore marks. It is Deepika's biggest grosser till date.
4) "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela": Deepika acted with lesser known actor Ranveer Singh in this film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but it has been doing good business at the box office after making an opening of ₹16 crore. It has earned ₹100.2 crore so far and is yet to be pulled out from the theatres.
