Anurag Basu's magnum opus "Barfi", a romantic comedy, has racked up ₹1 billion in India and overseas just ten days after its release on Sept 14.
After cash registering in its first weekend, "Barfi" continued its bullish trend at the bollywood box office without being unfazed by Madhur Bhandarkar's "Heroine".
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the news that "Barfi" topped ₹1 billion in collections worldwide. "#Barfi has grossed 100 cr *worldwide* in 10 days," he tweeted.
Many big banner movies were released between mid-August and mid-September, including "Ek Tha Tiger" and "Raaz 3". Except for the Salman Khan starrer, several other movies tanked at the box office or just did a fairly decent business.
Although, "Raaz 3" had little prospects of joining the elite ₹1 billion club, it managed to wedge itself into the category of box office hits by collecting ₹552.5 million in its first week.
Noting the response for Ranbir Kapoor's latest release, it was assured that the film would touch ₹1 billion at the box office. It is now the second latest movie to join bollywood's elite club following "Ek Tha Tiger".
The movie has racked up ₹755 million net in its second weekend.
"Barfi" witnessed a dip in business on Friday following the release of "Heroine". However, the movie began to strike it rich again in the following days, collecting ₹41 million on Friday, ₹60 million on Saturday and ₹70 million on Sunday, according to Adarsh.
Meanwhile, "Heroine" has collected ₹250 million in its first weekend despite having a good start on its release date. The movie fell flat without any significant jump in business on Saturday and Sunday.
According to Adarsh, "Heroine" collected ₹75 million on Friday, ₹85 million on Saturday, and ₹90 million on Sunday.
