Deepavali releases Kashmora and Kodi are off to good starts at the Chennai box office. Both the movies have cashed on the festive occasion and have ended its first weekend on a high note in the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Now, industry experts are curiously looking forward to see whether the latest films would surpass the business of Sivakarthikeyan's Remo, which is one of the biggest hits of 2016.
In the opening weekend, Kodi has minted Rs 1.34 crore from 342 shows, while Kashmora has earned Rs 1.12 crore from 288 shows. Both the openings are considered to be good, considering the performances of Dhanush's and Karthi's recent films. Moreover, the 'Kolaveri di' hitmaker and the Paiyaa star have bigger markets than Sivakarthikeyan, who is just into his fourth year in Kollywood.
Remo was released in the first week of October during Navaratri festival holiday and set the box office on fire. It had minted Rs 1.71 crore from 366 shows in the opening weekend. Kodi and Kashmora have failed to beat the first-weekend record of the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer. However, industry experts are hoping that the businesses of Deepavali releases might improve following the good word-of-mouth from the audience.
Moreover, Kashmora is enjoying good viewership among the family audience. Hence, there is a good chance for the Karthi-starrer to beat the lifetime collection of Remo.
By the end of its second weekend, Remo had made a collection of Rs 4.82 crore in Chennai. The movie had added Rs 3.11 crore after the first weekend. It means Kodi has to collect Rs 3.48 crore and Kashmora has to do Rs 3.70 crore business to beat the 10-day collection of the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer.
