Dhanush starrer "Maari", which has got mixed reviews from the audience and critics, has overpowered "Baahubali" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" at the Chennai box office.
"Maari" had amazing 294 shows in Chennai city in the first weekend. The movie ran into packed houses and made a business of Rs. 1.21 crore, reports Behindwoods. This fantastic response slowed down the collection of SS Rajamouli's multilingual movie "Baahubali" and Salman Khan's Bollywood film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan".
In its second weekend, "Baahubali" had 237 shows from which it earned Rs. 1.05 crore. The SS Rajamouli directorial had made Rs. 1.66 crore in the opening weekend. The total collection of the film at Chennai box office now stands at Rs. 3.84 crore, which is no less than a record for a movie, which does not have an A-list Kollywood actor.
Salman Khan starrer "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" has opened to positive reviews and has got fantastic start at the box office. In Chennai, the film had 120 shows from which it raked in Rs. 38 lakh. This is highly impressive business for a Hindi film, which does not have a big market in Southern states like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
However, Kamal Haasan's recent release "Papanasam" had a decent weekend as the film earned Rs. 22+ lakh from 135 shows. The total collection of the Tamil film now stands at Rs. 3.92 crore by the end of its third weekend.
On the other end, the business of Hollywood movie "Jurassic World" has almost dipped. The film had 15 shows in the weekend from which it made Rs. 1.09 lakh. The total business made by the film in Chennai is Rs. 2.99 crore, which is a record for an English film in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
