Vijay's "Jilla" has taken lead over Ajith's "Veeram" at the worldwide box office. Both "Jilla" and "Veeram" are performing extraordinarily in all areas where the films have hit the screens.
The Ajith and Vijay starrers are giving strong competition to each other and are doing great business at the box office. All those involved in film trade seem to be happy over the success of both the films.
The films took a gargantuan opening on the first day at the worldwide box office and continue to rock in theatres.
Vijay's "Jilla" has outperformed Ajith's "Veeram" at worldwide box office. "Jilla" has reportedly grossed ₹78 crore in eight days at the worldwide box office, whereas "Veeram" has raked in ₹65 crore.
Interestingly, "Veeram" leads over "Jilla" in Tamil Nadu. However, "Jilla" overtakes "Veeram" by a large margin in Kerala. The Vijay starrer has stormed the Kerala box office and is performing exceptionally well as the film has Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in a pivotal role. "Veeram" performance is not up to the mark in the state, but the film is still managing to sustain its momentum at the box office.
The performance of both the films has been almost equal in the rest of India including Karnataka. The action-packed entertainers have not yet released in Andhra Pradesh. "Jilla" makers are reportedly planning for the film's remake in Telugu, whereas "Veeram" dubbed version in Telugu titled "Veerudokade" will be released by this month end.
The Vijay and Ajith starrers are also doing well in overseas markets. "Veeram" has reportedly earned better collections (₹1.35 crore) than "Jilla" (₹1.29 crore) in its first week at the US box office. The "Siruthai" Siva directorial is ahead of "Jilla" in Australia as well, but "Jilla" takes lead over "Veeram" in other key overseas markets including Malaysia and UK.
Both the films are expected to rake in good collections in their second weekend at the box office. Vijay will be a happy man as "Jilla" is turning out to be a big hit. After the success of 2012-release "Thuppakki", Vijay's "Thalaivaa" was expected to do well. However, the film did average business, which upset Vijay fans. It is now celebration time for them as "Jilla" has emerged successful in the Pongal race despite facing strong competition from "Veeram."
On the other hand, Ajith and his fans will be overjoyed as the actor has given second hit in a row post the success of "Arrambam" in 2013.
