Vadacurry
Jai-Swati's "Vadacurry" has taken a good opening at the Chennai box office. The film, which hit screens on 20 June, received decent reviews from critics and also impressed the audience. Positive word of mouth has helped the comedy thriller perform well in its four-day weekend.
"Vadacurry" witnessed average theatre occupancy of 75 percent during the weekend. The film is estimated to have grossed ₹75.93 lakh at the Chennai box office, reported Behindwoods.
Sunny Leone's special number, Jai and RJ Balaji's acting, background scores by Vivek Shiva and Mervin Solomon, are some of the highlights of "Vadacurry." The overall performance of the film has been positive in Tamil Nadu. According to trade reports, the Jai starrer opened on a good note in "A", "B" and "C" centres.
It remains to be seen if the film will be able to sustain its business during weekdays. "Vadacurry" has one-week open run until the release of director Vijay's "Saivam." The family entertainer, starring baby Sara and Nassar is carrying positive buzz and is expected to perform decent business at the box office. The release of new film might reduce the screen count for "Vadacurry" and in turn, might affect the film's business.
Directed by debutant Saravana Rajan, the comedy drama flick has Aruldoss, Kasthuri, Ajay Raj, Sai Prasath and Misha Ghoshal in supporting roles. Venkat Prabhu, PRemgi Amaren and Mahat Raghavendra make cameo appearances in the film.
Dhayanidhi Azhagiri has produced "Vadacurry" under Meeka Entertainment banner.
Mundasupatti
Vishnu Vishal-Nandita's "Mundasupatti", which took dream start, has continued to perform well even in its second week.
The film has minted ₹1.02 crore in 10 days at the Chennai box office. Despite the release of a new film, "Mundasupatti" managed to bring crowd to the theatres.
The retro comedy entertainer received good reviews from critics, and audience has also given big thumbs up for the film. Its final verdict will be known at the end of the third weekend.
"Mundasupatti" is directed by newcomer Ram and the film has Kaali Venkat, Ramdoss and Anandaraj in supporting roles. The adventure comedy entertainer is jointly produced by Thirukumaran Entertainment and Fox Star Studios.
Manja Pai
Vemal-Lakshmi Menon-Raj Kiran's "Manjapai" has turned out to be a hit. The film is estimated to have grossed ₹2.25 crore in 17 days at the Chennai box office.
The family entertainer has struck a chord with the audience, though it received mixed reviews from critics.
Directed by Naveen Raghavan, "Manjapai" deals with grandfather-grandson bonding. Rajkiran's performance is the major highlight of the film, produced by Thirupathi Brothers and A Sarkunam Cinemaz.
