The second-day occupancy witnessed a good growth in all the major circuits, especially multiplexes. In the Northern region, the film is dominating at the box office, while the Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore circuits showed growth based on the word of mouth.
"#UdtaPunjab showed 11.94 % growth on Sat... Big city plexes are SUPER-STRONG... Biz-wise, Delhi, Punjab continue to perform BEST... contd, [sic]" trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, adding: "#UdtaPunjab Fri 10.05 cr, Sat 11.25 cr. Total: ₹ 21.30 cr. India biz... All set for ₹ 34 cr [+/-] opng weekend... Biz on weekdays crucial. [sic]"
The film is set for a good opening weekend box office collection with a nett total of more than Rs. 34 crore. Despite the censor copy getting leaked online just before the release, the film is performing well at the box office.
The Rs. 30-crore-plus opening weekend total will be one of the best for a dark film. Also, "Udta Punjab" might beat the opening weekend record of Shahid-Alia's last movie "Shaandaar," which had minted Rs. 33.51 crore.
Produced by Anurag Kashyap's Phantom Pictures and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, the Shahid-Alia starrer is a hard-hitting take on the issue of drug abuse and trafficking in Punjab.
