Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer "Udta Punjab" has finished its first week run at the domestic box office on a good note. "Udta Punjab" recorded the fifth highest first-week box office collection, beating the records of "Kapoor and Sons" (Rs. 46.93 crore).
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, "Udta Punjab" minted Rs. 48.50 crore in seven days from the domestic box office. The film, which talks about drug issue in Punjab, had a good first-week run. The controversy and the strong word of mouth helped the film maintain a good pace at the box office.
"#UdtaPunjab performed best in Punjab and Delhi specifically in Week 1. In other circuits, the biz ranged from decent to ordinary... Week 2, starting today, is crucial for #UdtaPunjab. It faces tough competition from the Punjabi film #SardaarJi2 in North circuits," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Meanwhile, at the worldwide box office, the film has grossed Rs. 75 crore mark in seven days. The opening weekend overseas box office collection and gross seven days domestic earnings took its worldwide income to Rs. 75.82 crore.
"Udta Punjab," produced by Anurag Kashyap's Phantom Pictures and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms, is a hard-hitting take on the issue of drug trafficking in Punjab. The film features Shahid, Alia, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles.
