"Trisha Illana Nayanthara" has topped the chart at the Chennai box office beating Nayantara's supernatural-thriller "Maya". This comes as a surprise to many as the Nayantara movie had got better reviews than GV Prakash's film.
Behindwoods reports that "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" has collected Rs 93.60 lakh from 186 shows in Chennai. This is said to be an impressive opening for a GV Prakash film. The movie got a fantastic response for advance booking and traders had predicted a good weekend for the film.
"Trisha Illana Nayanthara" got mixed reviews and is restricted to youth, being an adult-comedy.
"Maya" had 180 shows from which it earned Rs 86.58 lakh. The flick garnered highly positive reviews. The success of both the films depends a lot depend on how they fare in weekdays.
Nayantara's other movie "Thani Oruvan", which was released four weeks ago, continues to pull audience to theatres. The movie has raked in Rs 35 lakh from 108 shows. The total collection of the movie now stands at Rs 5.64 crore in Chennai.
The other new release "49-0" could only earn Rs 6.38 lakh from 54 shows. Pa Vijay directorial "Strawberry" made Rs 3.04 lakh from 30 shows in its second weekend. The box office collection of the film has almost dipped and is likely to be removed from theatres in the coming weeks.
SS Rajamouli's blockbuster "Baahubali" had 15 shows in its 11th week. It earned Rs 1.28 lakh to take its total tally to Rs 8.26 crore. This film might be removed next week.
"Yatchan" and "Paayum Puli" were the other movies that were being screened in Chennai theatres. Both the films did not do well and have earned only Rs 91.84 lakh and Rs 1.66 crore, respectively, till date.
