Dhanush starrer "Thanga Magan" has come out with flying colours at overseas centres despite the domination of Bollywood movie "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani". In the opening weekend, the Dhanush starrer has done well in the US, Canada, Australia and Malaysia.
"Thanga Magan" was released in 37 screens in the US and it raked in Rs 53.01 lakh in the first weekend. Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Dilwale" occupied the numero uno position among the Indian films by minting Rs 10.89 crore from 268 screens. The other new release "Bajirao Mastani" earned Rs 9.70 crore from 304 screens.
In Canada, "Thanga Magan", released in seven screens, earned Rs 16.30 lakh, which is a good collection for a Kollywood movie. "Dilwale" dominated the centre by making Rs 2.22 crore from 22 screens.
But the UK market turned out to be a dud for the Dhanush starrer as it only earned Rs 1.62 lakh from six screens. Once again, this centre was dominated by "Dilwale", which collected Rs 7.16 crore from 141 screens. "Bajirao Mastani" minted Rs 2.97 crore from 132 screens.
In Australia, "Thanga Magan" earned Rs 28.90 lakh from nine screens. "Dilwale" raked in Rs 2.34 crore and "Bajirao Mastani" ended its first weekend by making Rs 1.44 crore. In New Zealand, Dhanush's film raked in just Rs 1.34 lakh from one screen.
However, "Thanga Magan" outperformed both "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani" in Malaysia. It made Rs 50.06 lakh from 22 screens. "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani" raked in Rs 26.88 lakh and Rs 1.34 lakh, respectively.
