Dhanush-starrer "Thanga Magan", Shah Rukh Khan's "Dilwale" and Ranveer Singh's "Bajirao Mastani" released this week in flood-hit Chennai. Surprisingly, the first two films have done well, while the other is doing decent business in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
"Thanga Magan" had a good opening even though trade analysts said it was the weakest among Dhanush's recent releases. The reason is widely known: The city is still returning to normal. The film has over 170 shows and has been received well by Dhanush's fans.
Even "Dilwale" has done well in limited screens and Bajirao Mastani" had an average day, while the word-of-mouth is pretty good for the film. Trader tracker Kannan confirmed as much.
#BajiraoMastani getting good reviews but avg start at B-O whereas #Dilwale & #Thangamagan opened well but getting mixed reports! #Dec18Films

It has to be noted that the Tamil-dubbed version of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film has been released simultaneously, but not promoted well. Leading trade tracker Andhra Box Office explained on Twitter: "Eros messed-up #BajiraoMastani Dub Rel. Exhibitors say Ppl don't even knew it's having Dubbed rel with no Promos OnAir. But, Quality Dubbing. (sic)"
The trade tracker further said: "#Dilwale Solid start & #BajiraoMastani Average Figures. #ThangaMagan Okayish but Dhanush's weakest start in Recent Times. #BoxOffice (sic)"

On the whole In India, early estimates say "Thanga Magan" might have raked in around Rs 6 crore, "Bajirao Mastani" around Rs 13 crore and "Dilwale" more than Rs 20 crore.
