Dhanush starrer "Thanga Magan" has emerged as the clear winner at the Chennai box office in its first weekend beating other new releases like "Dilwale" and "Bajirao Mastani" in three days.
As per Behindwoods, "Thanga Magan" has earned Rs 1.52 crore in Chennai from 339 shows. The film enjoyed good occupancy on Saturday and Sunday. Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Dilwale" got a flying start in the capital city of Tamil Nadu but could not outperform the local Tamil flick.
"Dilwale" has raked in Rs 51.28 lakh, which is a huge number for a Bollywood film in Chennai. It had 177 shows in the three days and the prime-time shows ran into packed house in the weekend. The other big release "Bajirao Mastani" earned Rs 39.78 lakh from 144 shows.
The three films dominated the weekend in Chennai. Among the new releases, only "Bajirao Mastani" has got positive reviews and the other two have opened to mixed reviews. Hence, it has to be seen how the films will perform in the coming days.
Previous week's release "Eetti" has earned Rs 12.87 lakh this weekend from 93 shows. The total collection of the movie now stands at Rs 1.35 crore. Ajith's "Vedalam" had six shows and made Rs 56,000 to take its total to Rs 6.62 crore. It is likely to disappear from theatres next week as four films are releasing.
Thanga Magan in Tamil Nadu
Dhanush's "Thanga Magan" has done really well in Tamil Nadu. It was released in 400+ screens, from which it has approximately made Rs 10 crore. On the release day, it earned Rs 4.1 crore and added about Rs 3 crore on the second day.
