Akshay Kumar's "Special 26" continues to draw audiences during its second weekend overseas thanks to rave reviews.
The heist drama is rocking the overseas box offices and is doing especially well at the US and UAE centres. However, the film raked in fewer collections in Australia and New Zealand. Its 10-day overseas collection stood at ₹10.97 crore.
The Neeraj Pandey-directed film raked in ₹29.87 lakh (£ 35,625) from 21 screens in the UK and Ireland, ₹1.48 crore ($ 2, 73,514) from 85 screens in the US, ₹ 92.22 lakh in the UAE, ₹ 25.14 lakh (A$ 44,920) from 10 screens in Australia and ₹ 8.12 lakh from six screens in New Zealand, according to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.
The second weekend total of the film stands at approximately ₹3.03 crore in the international market. "Special 26" is inspired from a real-life story of a group of men who pose as CBI officers and execute an income tax raid.
Apart from Akshay, the film also features Kajal Agarwal, Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Bajpai, Anupam Kher and Divya Dutta in important roles.
The film was released along with Remo D'Souza's directorial movie "ABCD: Any Body Can Dance".
"ABCD", starring Prabhu Deva in the lead role, opened well in the UAE, but elsewhere the business was below average. The dance film collected ₹22.52 lakh ($ 41,554) from 17 screens in the US, ₹7.64 lakh (A$ 13,653) from 14 screens in Australia and ₹2.16 lakh from three screens in New Zealand.
At the UAE box office, the 10-day total collection of the film stood at ₹1.82 crore ($ 3, 35,000).
The earnings of the film after second weekend amount to around ₹2.14 crore. "ABCD" is the first bollywood dance film that is released in 3D screens.
