Marathi film "Sairat" has proved that content can do wonders at the box office even if the film does not feature big, well- known stars. "Sairat," which was released on April 29, continues to rake in moolah at the box office.
"Sairat," starring Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar, created history after it became the highest grossing Marathi film. The film shattered the records of several Marathi films, including "Natsamrat," "Lai Bhaari" and "Time Pass." And now, the film has taken its box office collection to over Rs. 55 crore. Several reports even suggest that the film has grossed more than Rs. 60 crore.
"Marathi film #Sairat continues its VICTORY MARCH... Continues to create HISTORY... Collects ₹ 55 cr+ till its 3rd Week Saturday. ATBB," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film, directed by Nagraj Manjule of "Fandry" fame, was leaked online, but that has not affected its theatrical run. The film started on a good note and positive reviews helped the business of the film to grow. The demand of the film in Maharashtra is high and to cater to that the makers have added several screens at various circuits, according to ScoopWhoop.
"Sairat" has not only garnered praise from Marathi film industry, but Bollywood celebrities too have tweeted praising the film. Earlier, Aamir Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza tweeted about the film. Recently, Irrfan Khan, Swara Bhaskar, Shoojit Sircar praised the film.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that the Marathi film "Sairat" might be remade in Gujarati and Telugu languages. "After ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER in Marathi #Sairat is being planned to remade in Gujarati & Telugu languages as well," trade expert Girish Johar tweeted.
"Sairat" is a love story in the backdrop of caste discrimination. The lead actress Rinku Rajguru has also won a National Award for her performance in the film.
