Behindwoods reports that "Rajini Murugan" has collected Rs 96.21 lakh in four days. On the opening day itself it raked in Rs 21+ lakh and this is considered to be a very good opening for a movie starring Sivakarthikeyan. A holiday weekend played a major role in the film's success, according to traders.
Sasikumar's "Tharai Thappattai" is surprisingly in the second position at the Chennai box office this weekend, despite getting mixed reviews. Many critics had said that the Tamil movie may not impress the family audience due to excessive violence. But it seems to have had little impact on the viewers as it made witnessed a good first weekend run. The film raked in Rs 79.73 lakh and on the opening day, it earned Rs 16+ lakh in Chennai.
Udhayanidhi Stalin's "Gethu" is in the next position making Rs 62.64 lakh. It is a good opening for a Stalin starrer and this film too garnered mixed reviews from the audience and critics. It has to be noted that this flick had the least number of shows among the Tamil Pongal releases.
Vishal Krishna starrer "Kathakali" had a decent weekend in Chennai as it minted Rs 57.91 lakh. The film is expected to do well in the coming days, given the positive reviews the film has got from critics.
Telugu movie "Nannaku Prematho" has performed well despite facing huge competition from Tamil films in Chennai. It has raked in Rs 21.54 lakh from 24 shows in the weekend. It now remains to be seen whether the screen count will increase in the coming days as the Telugu film has been met with good reviews.
