"Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai" has emerged as a big winner at the Chennai box office. The multi-starrer film has managed to beat other releases like "36 Vayadhinile" aka "36 Vayathinile" and Bollywood film "Bombay Velvet" in its first weekend in the city.

The Arya-Vijay Sethupathi-Shaam-Karthika Nair starrer has earned ₹69.62 lakh in the opening weekend, reports Behindwoods. It had 177 shows and remained the biggest crowd puller in the weekend in Chennai.
Meanwhile, Jyothika's comeback film "36 Vayadhinile" collected ₹52.86 lakh from 138 shows and bagged the second place at the Chennai box office. However, both the films have been declared hits and are expected to continue its business given the good word-of-mouth that the Kollywood films have received.
The closest competitor of "36 Vayadhinile" is Bollywood movie "Bombay Velvet", starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, in Chennai. The film raked in ₹11.04 lakh from 42 shows in the opening weekend.
On the other end, Kamal Haasan's "Uttama Villain" has slow down earlier than expected at collection centres. The Tamil movie had only 51 shows and earned ₹10.29 lakh. The total business that the ilm made by the end of its third weekend in Chennai is ₹2.99 crore.
However, Vijay Anthony's "India Pakistan" has managed to make decent business as the movie collected ₹ 9.77 lakh from 72 shows. By the end of its second weekend, the total business made by the film was ₹48.64 lakh.
Raghava Lawrence's "Kanchana 2" had decent occupancy even in its fifth weekend. The movie raked in ₹8.90 lakh from 66 shows. The total collection of the Tamil film in Chennai stands at ₹6.14 crore.
Aishwarya Dhanush's second directorial "Vai Raja Vai" had a decent weekend as it earned ₹4.82 lakh from 42 shows. By the end of its third weekend, the total collection made by the flick was ₹87.80 lakh.
