Punjabi animated film "Chaar Sahibzaade" dominated the overseas market last weekend (21-23 November) over Bollywood movies "Happy Ending", "Kill Dil" and "Happy New Year".
"Chaar Sahibzaade", directed by Harry Baweja, has been going strong in the international market. The Punjabi film tells the story of the sons of the 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh - Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh.
It opened to good response from audience worldwide especially at the overseas box office. Though the film is running in its third week, it is the ruling the collection centres over Bollywood movies.
"Chaar Sahibzaade" minted ₹5 crore from the UK box office till the third weekend, ₹3.36 crore from Australia and ₹5 crore from the Canada box office.
The Punjabi film is movie-goers' first choice in the international market over the new released "Happy Ending". Filmmaker Harry Baweja is happy with the reactions the film has been getting.
"I am extremely happy with the reaction that I am getting from my audience and from the industry people. It has been great so far, I feel blessed," IANS quoted Baweja as saying.
"It was a tedious job to make an animation film. I had no choice but to make it in animation. I hope we make more animation films in India. It took close to three years for me to make this film," he added.
Happy Ending
Saif Ali Khan's romantic comedy, "Happy Ending", sadly had a bad opening weekend in the international market. The film minted approx ₹6.5 crore (USD 1.05 million) in its opening weekend.
The overseas opening weekend break-up of the film according to Bollywood Hungama is: US ₹1.01 crore ($163,673), UK-Ireland ₹66.73 lakh (£69,019), Australia ₹18.79 lakh (AS$ 35,034), New Zealand ₹5.80 lakh (NZ$ 11,900) and Malaysia ₹2.83 lakh (MYR 15,348).
Happy New Year
Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" is running in its fifth week at the overseas box office. The musical heist drama's overseas four week total collection is yet to be updated, but the film has minted more than ₹90 crore till now.
