"PK" is smashing one record after another at the box office worldwide. After surpassing the ₹300 crore mark in India, the film recorded the highest 18th day collection at the domestic box office.
On third Monday, the film earned ₹4.42 crore, which is good keeping in mind that the film has been running for three weeks.
Adding the third Monday's earning, the business of the film now amounts to ₹309.69 crore. With this pace, the film will register highest third week earnings in India.
"#PK [Week 3] Mon 4.42 cr. Highest 18th Day. Grand total: ₹ 309.69 cr nett. India biz. ALL TIME BLOCKBUSTER," trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.
"PK" or "Peekay" has now achieved the title of "All Time Blockbuster" with its stupendous box office performance.
The film directed by Rajkumar Hirani features Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma in lead roles, while Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Sukhla and Sanjay Dutt appear in supporting characters.
The comedy drama was initially released in 5000 screens in India, but the screen count decreased as it finished its first and second week. But despite all the controversies, the film sustained well at the box office and in fact performed better than other big-budget films released in the last two years.
Meanwhile, the "PK" team is ecstatic with its box office performance worldwide.
"'PK' is a delightful movie with an important message and we are glad that audiences across the world have embraced our film in the way they have," Amrita Pandey, vice president and head (marketing and distribution), Studios, Disney India, told IANS.
"The box office performance is unprecedented both in India and internationally, with each successive day of its theatrical run setting new benchmarks," Pandey added.
"Most importantly, the film has enjoyed an unprecedented growth trajectory and shows no signs of letting up, with cinemas registering incredibly high occupancy rates well into the third week of release," she said.
