The summer releases – Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – have opened in theatres this Memorial weekend. While Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean has opened to good response at the US box office, R-Rated comedy-drama Baywatch had a surprisingly low opening.

Baywatch, the official movie version of the iconic TV series of the 90s, has received mixed to negative reviews from critics as well as average response at the box office. The R-Rated comedy-drama, starring Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson and Priyanka Chopra, minted around $4.5 million on its opening day from 3,647 theatres and this includes $1.25 million from Wednesday's preview shows.

The film, which is made on a budget of around $60 million, will have to show good growth over the five-day weekend to earn a decent amount.
Directed by Seth Gordon, the film opened with ratings that are more negative. However, Dwayne is not affected by the negative reviews, as he believes that the fans have loved the film. But it remains to be seen if the love will translate into good box office numbers for Baywatch or not.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
On the other hand, Johnny Depp-starrer Pirates 5 has taken a lead at the box office. The film, which is the fifth film in the franchise, has earned approximately $24 million from its Friday run from 4,276 theatres, which includes $5.5 million from Thursday's preview shows.
However, the film will have to maintain the hold at the box office because the production cost is more than $200 million.
Directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, the film features Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Kevin R McNally, Golshifteh Farahani, David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush.
