Suriya's "Pasanga 2" has emerged a winner at the Chennai box office, and got a "hit" status. The children's film managed to rule collection centres in Chennai over the weekend.
"Pasanga 2" had 114 shows last weekend, from which it earned Rs 39.27 lakh, reports Behindwoods. After making Rs 60.37 lakh in the opening weekend, the Tamil flick minted Rs 52.19 lakh from 165 shows on its second weekend. By the end of its third weekend, its total collection stands at Rs 2.20 crore.
This is a huge collection, considering that it is a children's film. It has turned out to be a profitable venture for the producer, distributors and exhibitors. Jayam Ravi's "Bhooloham" is in the second position in Chennai, having earned Rs 28.86 lakh from 108 shows in the weekend gone by, to take its total tally to Rs 2.70 crore.
Jayam Ravi has returned in "Bhooloham" after his blockbuster "Thani Oruvan", which was the third-biggest hit in Chennai after Vikram's "I" and SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" in 2015. "Thani Oruvan" had made Rs 6.67 crore in Chennai, and people were hoping "Bhooloham" would break the record or at least reach somewhere near it.
However, "Bhooloham" is unlikely to beat the record of "Thani Oruvan" as its business is slowing down. Adding to that, the film will possibly make way for Pongal releases like "Rajini Murugan", "Thara Thappatai", "Gethu" and "Kathakali".
Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar's "Wazir" had a decent opening in Chennai, collecting Rs 22.19 lakh from 63 shows last weekend. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" is in the fourth position, having raked in Rs 8.34 lakh from 36 shows in the same period. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 1.28 crore by the end of its fourth weekend.
Gijanjali Selvaraghavan's debut film "Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam" minted Rs 4.55 lakh from 33 shows to take its tally to Rs 35.85 lakh by the end of its second weekend. Dhanush's "Thanga Magan" has crossed the Rs 3-crore mark, as it collected Rs 4.29 lakh from 36 shows in its fourth weekend.
Shah Rukh Khan's "Dilwale" had 15 shows, from which it grossed Rs 1.96 lakh last weekend, to take its tally to Rs 1.10 crore.
