Sushant Singh Rajput starrer MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (MSDTUS) has broken a box office record of Akshay Kumar's Rustom with its collection over the first weekend.
The biopic on MS Dhoni has had a wonderful collection at the Indian box office over the weekend and the movie exhibited excellent performance in the overseas markets as well. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has come up as the 4th highest opening weekend grosser of 2016 at the overseas market, beating Rustom's collections.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story witnessed best earnings in UAE-GCC and the USA among the foreign regions over the 1st weekend. The movie collected Rs 21.93 crore (3.3 million USD) in the overseas market in first 3 days.
On the other hand, Akshay-starrer Rustom had collected 3 million USD at the foreign circuits on its first weekend. This is a big achievement for the makers of the MS Dhoni biopic as Rustom is one of the biggest blockbusters of 2016.
Salman Khan's Sultan tops the list of highest opening weekend grosser at overseas market in 2016 with a collection of 13.4 million USD. First and second slots are claimed by Fan and Housefull 3 with businesses of 6 million USD and 4 million USD, respectively.
With positive reviews and strong word of mouth, gross worldwide collection of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has already crossed Rs 100 crore and its domestic earning is also likely to reach the mark very soon.
Having broken the opening overseas weekend collection of Rustom, it will be interesting to see if the movie be able to cross the lifetime earning of the Akshay-starrer at the Indian box office. Rustom's lifetime domestic collection stands at Rs 127.48 crore.
