Nayanthara starrer "Maya" managed to beat "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" in its second weekend at the Chennai box office with "Thani Oruvan" continuing to perform well at the collection centres.
"Maya" collected Rs 68.78 lakh from 171 shows in its second weekend in Chennai, reports Behindwoods. The total collection of the movie by the end of 10 days stands at Rs 2.09 crore. It has pushed "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" to the second place as GV Prakash's movie made Rs 52.32 lakh from 156 shows.
In the first weekend, "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" had performed better than "Maya" where the GV Prakash's movie earned Rs 93.60 lakh from 186 shows against Nayantara's movie, which collected Rs 86.58 lakh.
The 10-day collection of "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" now stands at Rs 1.91 crore at the Chennai box office. Trade analysts had expected a dip in the collection of the GV Prakash starrer as the movie is strictly for adults and more importantly, for youngsters. "Maya", however, has been liked by all sections of the audience.
Coming back to "Thani Oruvan", the Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swamy starrer collected Rs 23.90 lakh from 90 shows in its fifth weekend. The total collection made by the movie till date is Rs 6.11 crore. This turned out to be the highest-grossing movie of Ravi in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
However, "Thani Oruvan" will face the heat of Vijay's "Puli" in the coming days as the latter will have a worldwide release. Industry analysts are expecting the latest movie to have some impact on the presently-running films in theatres.
The latest release, "Kuttram Kadithal", which got fantastic reviews from the critics, collected Rs 9.84 lakh from 60 shows in its first weekend.
The other release, "Kirumi", raked in Rs 4.14 lakh from 36 shows.
