Manjapai
Vimal-Lakshmi Menon-Raj Kiran starrer "Manjapai" is doing good business at the box office.
The film took a solid opening and minted ₹1.55 crore nett on the first day of release and it is said to be Vimal's best ever opening. "#ManjaPai - Solid opening . Friday - June 6 - TN, Approximately Rs 1.55 Crore Net (tax free) from 220 screens. Vimal's best opening," entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
The family entertainer has managed to hold well in its first weekend, despite the release of other films including Prakash Raj's "Un Samayal Arayil" and Akshay Kumar's "Holiday."
The film has reportedly netted around ₹7.5 crore in its opening weekend at the Tamil Nadu box office, reported Behindwoods. It witnessed good occupancy in theatres even on Monday, when rains lashed the state.
Raj Kiran's strong performance has apparently turned out to be a crowd puller for "Manjapai." His portrayal of an innocent and kind villager, who comes to the city has struck a chord with the viewers.
The film is expected to continue its good run at the box office until new releases hit the screens.
Un Samayal Arayil
Prakash Raj-Sneha's "Un Samayal Arayil" has taken an average opening at the box office. The film, a remake of Malayalam hit "Salt N Pepper", received mixed reviews from critics.
The romantic drama performed well in "A" centres", while it took below average openings in "B" and "C" centres. Word of mouth about the film is mixed and it remains to be seen if the film has any scope to improve its business prospects in the coming days.
Kochadaiiyaan
Rajinikanth starrer "Kochadaiiyaan" has been declared above average considering its huge investments.
"Kochadaiiyaan", deemed as India's first 3D film using photorealistic motion capturing techniques, took a grand opening in its first weekend and grossed ₹42 crore at the worldwide box office.
The superstar's film is still running successfully in several theatres even after two weeks, though its collections have witnessed a drop.
The Tamil version has been doing decent business, while the Telugu ("Vikramasimha") and Hindi ("Kochadaiiyaan") versions have fared poorly.
The Telugu version was affected by Akkineni multi starrer "Manam", while the Hindi version was eclipsed by Tiger Shroff's "Heropanti."
According to reports, "Kochadaiiyaan" makers are planning for the film's sequel.
Yaamirukka Bayamey
Kreshna-Karunakaran starrer "Yaamirukka Bayamey" has been declared a super hit.
The horror comedy film has performed well in all centres and has kept the cash bag flowing. Despite new releases, including "Kochadaiiyaan", the film has managed to hold well at the box office.
"Yaamirukka Bayamay" has successfully completed four weeks and is fast approaching the 50-day mark.
