The "Kya Kool Hain Hum" franchise is getting bigger with each instalment. The third instalment in the series, "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3", has surpassed the opening day box office figures of the second instalment.
"Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3", which received negative reviews, earned Rs 8.15 crore on its opening day from the domestic box office. The opening day box office collection of "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3" is the second highest, the first being "Airlift" with Rs 12.35 crore.
"#KyaaKoolHainHum3 Fri ₹ 8.15 cr. India biz,' trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The adult comedy starring Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani and Mandana Karimi was released on Friday along with Akshay Kumar's "Airlift". While "Airlift" performed well in metro cities, "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3" dominated mass centres. In fact, the opening day occupancy of "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3" was similar to "Airlift" in certain circuits.
The adult comedy had a decent start at the box office, but it remains to be seen whether it will maintain the same pace over the weekend. The genre "adult comedy" and negative reviews might hamper its earnings, but if it manages to hold well like "Grand Masti" did in 2013, it can be among the top grossers in that genre.
"Grand Masti" starring Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab and Vivek Oberoi is the first adult comedy film to cross Rs 100 crore mark in India. The film, which was released on 13 September, 2013, had an opening of around Rs 12 crore.
Meanwhile, the opening of "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3" is better than "Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum". The second installment film was a solo release and it accumulated Rs 7.12 crore, while "Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3" was released along with Akshay's film and still it collected Rs 8.15 crore.
Touted to be India's first porn-com, the film is helmed by Umesh Ghadge and it features Tusshar, Aftab, Mandana, Gizele Thakral, Claudia Ciesla, Krishna Abhishek and Shakti Kapoor in pivotal roles.
