Kiccha Sudeep's "Kotigobba 2" has opened to a flying start at the Karnataka box office. Despite facing huge competition from non-Kannada films like "Mohenjo Daro," "Rustom" and "Babu Bangaram," the Kannada film has done a good collection on its first day.
"Kotigobba 2" was released in over 220 screens in the state and in Bengaluru alone, the movie had close to 200 shows on its first day. The film has registered above 70 percent occupancy on the first day and has done a fantastic business in the state.
The early estimations coming from the industry say that "Kotigobba 2" has grossed over Rs. 5 crore. The makers of the film are yet to reveal the official collection made by the Kannada flick.
"Kotigobba 2" has been simultaneously released in Tamil as "Mudinja Ivana Pudi." As per some TV news channels, the combined gross collection of two versions of the film stands at Rs. 20 crore. However, trade experts are sceptical about this report, considering the flick has not got a good opening in Tamil Nadu.
Nonetheless, its performance has been hailed in Karnataka as it has done well despite facing huge competition from Bollywood biggies like "Mohenjo Daro" and "Rustom" along with Telugu film "Babu Bangaram."
"Mohenjo Daro" is an epic adventure-romance film starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde, while "Rustom" is a crime-mystery flick, which has Akshay Kumar and Ileana D Cruz in the leads. Both the Hindi films have opened well in Bengaluru where the films had over 200 screens. On the other hand, "Babu Bangaram" has got a decent start in Karnataka and it had about 125 shows in the Garden City.
All the four biggies are expected to do well over the weekend.
