Jiiva's Kavalai Vendam has got a decent start at the Tamil Nadu box office. Despite the demonetisation move, the latest Tamil movie enjoyed good occupancy rates in theatres across Chennai and other centres.
The movie was released in over 250 screens in Tamil Nadu. The response for Kavalai Vendam was not too positive on the opening day. But the collection saw a good jump in the next few days. The film earned over Rs 5 crore in the opening weekend, according to trade reports.
Interestingly, Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan's Dear Zindagi has emerged victorious at the Tamil Nadu box office. The movie was released in just 23 screens and enjoyed over 60 percent occupancy in the first three days.
Dear Zindagi, which earned Rs 32.50 crore in the first weekend in India, collected Rs 95 lakh in Tamil Nadu alone, which is considered a big number for a Bollywood film. The movie received a grand welcome by Chennai viewers and went on to mint Rs 50.25 lakh from 135 shows in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada continued to pull the audience to theatres in its third weekend. The Simbu and Manjima Mohan-starrer, which earned Rs 5.52 crore in Chennai alone, made a net business of over Rs 25 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office.
However, the business of GV Prakash Kumar's Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru slowed down in its second weekend.
