Check out the Chennai box office collection report of Tamil films "Jigarthanda", "Velai Illa Pattathari" (VIP) and "Sarabham."
"Jigarthanda"
Siddharth-Lakshmi Menon's "Jigarthanda" has taken a good opening at the Chennai box office.
The film witnessed an average theatre occupancy of 85 percent and is estimated to have grossed over ₹76 lakh in its opening weekend in Chennai, according to Behindwoods.
"Jigarthanda" is carrying fantastic reviews from the critics as well as from the audience. It has outperformed the other newly-released film "Sarabham" and is dominating the box office. The film is topping the Chennai box office pushing Dhanush's "VIP" to the second spot, while "Sarabham" has taken the third spot.
"Jigarthanda" is expected to continue its good run until next week as there are no big Tamil releases. Positive word of mouth is likely to help the film to rake in good collections at the box office.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, "Jigarthanda" is a musical gangster flick with Siddharth, Lakshmi Menon, Simhaa and Karunakaran appearing in pivotal roles. The performances of the actors, film's music by Santosh Naryanan and cinematography by Gavemic U Ary have won accolades from all quarters.
"Velai Illa Pattathari"
Dhanush's "VIP" has been declared a blockbuster. The film, which hit the screens on 18 July, has done fantastic business not just in India but also in the overseas markets.
The romantic action entertainer has earned over ₹5 crore in 17 days at the Chennai box office. It is all set to complete its 25 day theatrical run soon.
"VIP" opened to a grand response in its first weekend and continued to perform well during the debut week. With no other big Tamil releases, the Dhanush starrer ended the second week on a good note. The film has earned more than ₹25 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office.
"VIP" performance has been rock steady and it remains to be seen as to how the film fares in the coming days. The action entertainer might witness a drop in its collections owing to the release of "Jigarthanda." The Siddharth-Lakshmi starrer has been receiving tremendous reviews and has taken a good opening and is likely to give a strong competition to the Dhanush starrer.
"Sarabham"
Naveen Chandra-Salony Luthra's "Sarabham" has taken an average opening at the Chennai box office. The film is estimated to have minted over ₹12 lakh in its first weekend in Chennai, reported Behindwoods.
