Jayam Ravi starrer "Thani Oruvan" has performed well at the US box office and has beat big Bollywood films like "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", "Drishyam" and "Brothers" in its first weekend.
The Tamil movie has earned $72,236 (Rs 49.49 lakh) from 18 screens in its first weekend. The movie is likely to improve its business in the coming days as it has garnered good word-of-mouth from the audience and critics. Among Indian movies in the US, Bollywood film "Phantom" has topped the list by earning $207,921 (Rs 1.38 crore) from 93 screens in its first weekend.
"Punjabi" film "Faraar" is in the third position by raking in $32,427 (Rs 21.55 lakh) from 22 screens. Telugu film "Srimanthudu", in its fourth weekend, made business of $27,647 (Rs 18.21 lakh) from 24 screens. So far, the Kollywood flick has earned $2,869,560 (Rs 19.07 crore) from the US market.
The surprising entry in the list is Kannada movie "Uppi 2". Sandalwood films hardly make to the list and this Kannada movie, starring Upendra, is among the few movies that has done good business by minting $31,981 (Rs 21.26 lakh) from 21 screens.
On the other end, the business of Salman Khan's career's biggest blockbuster "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" has slowed down at the US box office. In its seventh weekend, it collected $17,540 (Rs 11.2 lakh) to take its total tally to $62,42,021 (Rs 41.49 crore) from 13 screens.
Ajay Devgn's "Drishyam" is in the next position by making $10,672 (Rs 7.96 lakh) from eight screens. The total business of the Hindi film now stands at $542,860 (Rs 3.60 crore). Umesh Shukla's "All is Well" earned $7,876 (Rs 5.68 lakh) from 17 screens to take its total tally to $91,082 (Rs 60.54 lakh). The Hindi version of "Baahubali" raked in $6,434 (Rs 4.27 lakh) from six screens to take its total tally to $476,034 (Rs 3.16 crore).
Akshay Kumar's "Brothers" is below all Indian films and has minted $4,384 (Rs 2.12 lakh) from 11 screens in its third weekend. The total collection of the movie now stands at $455,263 (Rs 3.02 crore).
