Irrfan Khan-starrer "Madaari" (Madari) had a good growth at the worldwide box office over the weekend. The thriller drama, directed by Nishikanth Kamat, minted Rs. 20.55 crore in its opening weekend at the worldwide box office.

"Madaari," which was released in approximately 1,000 screens along with Rajinikanth's "Kabali," minted Rs. 4.45 crore gross on its opening day. On Saturday (second day), the film witnessed a growth of around 55.6 percent and collected Rs. 6.5 crore gross. The business of the film witnessed another major jump on Sunday. "Madaari" business went up by 58 percent, which took its third-day worldwide box office collection to Rs. 9.6 crore.

The film grossed Rs 16.15 crore at the domestic box office and Rs 4.4 crore at the overseas box office in its opening weekend, read a statement.

The growth in the business of "Madaari" has been remarkable, as the film was facing a tough competition from "Kabali" and ongoing film "Sultan," starring Salman Khan. The worldwide box office collection remained steady due to strong word of mouth the film carried post its release.

From Bollywood celebrities to politicians, the film received a positive response from all. Earlier, Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Amitabh Bachchan and others praised Irrfan and the storyline of "Madaari." And recently, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lauded Irrfan and the team of "Madaari."

"Irrfan Khan 'Madaari'...Amazing movie. Everyone must watch it," Kejriwal tweeted.

Directed by Nishikanth, the film also features Jimmy Shergill, Vishesh Bansal, Tushar Dalvi, Nitish Pandey and Ayesha Raza. "Madaari" has been produced by Paramhans Creations Productions, and distributed by Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment and Films.
