Irrfan Khan starrer "The Lunchbox" has witnessed a notable rise in its collections at the box office with over ₹7 crore in the first weekend.
Considering its current pace at the box office. the film, which also stars Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, is expected to recover its production cost of ₹10 crore.
On Monday, trade pundit Taran Adarsh stated, "The Lunchbox"s figures as "#TheLunchbox collected ₹ 7.10 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup: Fri ₹ 1.25 cr, Sat ₹ 2.60 cr, Sun ₹ 3.25 cr."
The rapidly rising collections of the internationally acclaimed film are bound to give its producers an upper hand over other releases, despite its limited screen count at 400.
Going by Saturday and Sunday figures of ₹2.60 crore and ₹3.25 crore, respectively, it can be said that the collections of "The Luncbox" saw a leap during the weekend, greatly helped by rave critics' reviews.
On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor's "Phata Poster Nikhla Hero" opened to fairly decent collections of ₹6 crore on Friday, as against "The Lunchbox" collections at ₹1.25 crore. The commercial film's opening weekend figures stand at ₹21.25 crore.
Meanwhile, adult comedy "Grand Masti" continues its grand theatrical run with figures closing in on the ₹80 crore mark in its second weekend.
