Hollywood movie "Independence Day: Resurgence" has dominated the Chennai box office in its first weekend and it has affected Tamil movies like "Amma Kanakku," "Metro" and a few others. But the English film failed to break the opening weekend record of "Conjuring 2" in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" has collected Rs. 81.97 lakh from 189 shows, Behindwoods reported. On the other end, Hollywood biggie "Conjuring 2" had earned Rs. 98.27 lakh from 207 shows. It had raked in Rs. 73.46 lakh in its second weekend.
"Conjuring 2" had 84 shows in its third weekend and the total collection of the movie till date in Chennai stands at Rs. 3.33 crore. It is interesting to see whether "Independence Day: Resurgence" will be able to break this record.
Amala Paul-starrer "Amma Kanakku" has earned Rs. 25.92 lakh from 123 shows. It has got fairly positive reviews and the family audience's turnout holds the key for its success at the box office.
Another new release "Metro" has earned a little lesser than "Amma Kanakku," which has raked in Rs. 25.15 lakh from 102 shows. The movie has garnered positive reviews and the makers hope that the good word-of-mouth will boost the collection of the Tamil flick.
GV Prakash Kumar's "Enakku Innoru Per Irukku" had a decent weekend as it collected Rs. 24.63 lakh from 102 shows. The total collection of the movie by the end of its third weekend stands at Rs. 1.33 crore.
Hollywood movie "Finding Dory," which had made Rs. 18.62 lakh from 66 shows, earned Rs. 13.14 lakh to take its total tally to Rs. 44.45 lakh by the end of its second weekend.
Sundar C-directorial "Muthina Kathirika" has seen a huge dip in its second weekend collection as it could only rake in Rs. 8.87 lakh to take its total tally to Rs. 59.30 lakh. The movie had collected Rs. 28.46 lakh from 117 shows.
Bollywood movie "Udta Punjab" has collected Rs. 4.83 lakh from 30 shows in its second weekend to take its total tally to Rs. 44.94 lakh.
