Nayanthara's Imaikkaa Nodigal is off to a solid start at the Chennai box office and performed better than other new releases that include Prakash Raj and Vikram Prabhu's new flick 60 Vayadu Maaniram.
In the opening weekend, Imaikkaa Nodigal has minted Rs 1.70 crore from 264 shows. It has beaten the record of Nayanthara's recent movie Kolamavu Kokila, which garnered Rs 1.61 crore from 264 shows.
Prakash Raj's 60 Vayadu Maaniram, which has garnered fairly positive reviews, has collected Rs 33.47 lakh from 123 shows and Vetrimaaran-produced Annanukku Key raked in Rs 28.58 lakh from 117 shows.
Nayanthara's film Kolamavu Kokila, which was released on August 17, has grossed Rs 27.84 lakh from 102 shows. The total collection of the movie stands at Rs 4.99 crore in Chennai.
Hindi film Stree has earned Rs 13.10 lakh from 42 shows, new Tamil film Aaruthra has collected Rs 9.96 lakh and Telugu movie Geetha Govindam has collected Rs 7.04 lakh from 33 shows to take its total tally to Rs 1.57 crore by the end of its third weekend.
Merku Thodarchi Malai (Rs 4.38 lakh from 21 shows), English film Alpha (Rs 3.95 lakh from 15 shows to take its total to Rs 73.67 lakh) and Pyaar Prema Kaadhal (Rs 1.82 lakh from 21 shows to take its total to Rs 2.46 crore) are the other movies which did decent business in Chennai.
