Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan starrer "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" has started on a good note on its opening day. The film made a business of around ₹9 crore from its first day run at the domestic box office.
The hype surrounding the film was quite positive, but it failed to turn that into collections. The film's opening day collection is the seventh highest of 2014.

The film had opened to very good response in North India, but several circuits, including Mumbai was affected due to heavy rains. Also, in Maharashtra the collection was affected due to Riteish Deshmukh's "Lai Bhaari" movie, which had opened to a very good response.
Overall, the film had a very good opening day collection. "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" is Dhawan's biggest opener. Dhawan's previous release "Main Tera Hero" had collected ₹6.6 crore on its opening day. Here is the list of top opening day grosser films of 2014:

Meanwhile, Marathi film "Lai Bhaari" has really good response in Maharashtra. The film, which features Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role has raked in around ₹3 crore on day one.

"Lai Bhaari" is an action drama film and has received rave reviews from critics upon its release. The film is riding high on positive word of mouth.
In several theaters, especially single screens in Maharashtra the film is going housefull.
