Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" (HNY) has set a new record for Hindi films at the Germany box office.
"HNY" has taken the best ever opening for a Bollywood film, by grossing $94,000 on the opening day in Germany. The SRK starrer has surpassed "Dhoom 3" collections, which had minted $86,000 during the first weekend, according to Box Office India.
"HNY" is now expected to mint over $300,000 and get enlisted in the top 10 chart, during this weekend in Germany, the website reported. It remains to be seen if the film will beat the all-time record set by SRK's own "My Name is Khan", which had raked in $500,000.
The heist comedy is doing fantastic business in India, as well as overseas markets. The multi-starrer has minted ₹172 crore (nett) in nine days at the domestic box office and is expected to surpass the ₹200 crore mark by the end of next week.
If it enters the ₹200 crore club, the film will surpass the lifetime collections of "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (₹188.57 crore) and "Ek Tha Tiger" (₹198.78 crore). Trade experts and fans will be eager to see if "HNY" beats "Chennai Express" total India collections (₹227.13 crore) and emerge as the highest grossing film of Shah Rukh.
"HNY" has minted ₹63 crore at the international box office and its worldwide gross collections amount to ₹300 crore, according to Koimoi. It remains to be seen if the SRK starrer surpasses "Krrish 3" global collections, which amount to ₹374 crore.
"HNY" has received decent reviews from critics as well as the audience. It took a record opening in India by minting more than ₹40 crore on the first day of its release. The film surpassed the ₹100-crore mark in just three days but its collections started to dip during weekdays.
The action-comedy entertainer failed to pick up during the second weekend (Friday and Saturday). It needs to be seen how the film fares on Sunday (2 November). The film is expected to earn more than ₹180 crore at the end of its second weekend.
Directed by Farah Khan, "HNY" also has Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivan Shah in pivotal roles. The film is produced by SRK's Red Chillies Entertainment.
