Vijay's "Kaththi", which was on a fantastic run at the Malaysian box office, seems to have slowed down. The film's third weekend collections are lower than Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year" and Vishal's "Poojai" in Malaysia.
"Kaththi" minted MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) 24,364 from 13 screens in its third weekend (7-9 November). SRK's "Happy New Year" has earned MYR 30,661 from nine screens, while Vishal's Tamil film, "Poojai", raked in MYR 27,808 from 13 screens in the third weekend, according to Bollywood Hungama. However, "Kaththi" has outperformed these two films in its total collections so far at the Malaysian box office. The Vijay starrer has grossed MYR 20,71,242 (₹3.82 crore) at the end of the third weekend (from 22 October to 9 November). On the other hand, "Happy New Year" has minted MYR 373,662 (₹68.95 lakh) and "Poojai" has fetched MYR 884,036 (₹1.63 crore).
Malaysia is one of the key markets for Tamil films as it has the largest percentage of Tamilians among Indian diaspora.
Tamil films of big stars have performed exceptionally well in Malaysia and scored a big hit in the country. "Kaththi" is no exception and the film took grand openings upon its release.
It has emerged as one among the highest grossing Tamil films along with "Endhiran," Sivaji" and "Thuppakki."
The film has turned out to be a huge hit at the worldwide box office as well. It has reportedly grossed over ₹110 crore across the world. It is the highest grossing Tamil film of the year so far. It remains to be seen if any of the upcoming releases including "Lingaa" and "Anegan" will be able to surpass "Kaththi" collections.
Poojai
"Poojai" has managed to hold well despite facing competition from "Kaththi." Although the film's collections are less compared to "Kaththi," its overall performance has been decent. The Vishal starrer is expected to be a hit at the box office.
Happy New Year (HNY)
SRK's "Happy New Year" is rocking the worldwide box office with its fantastic performance. The film, which was released in more than 5,000 screens, has set several records. The SRK starrer is all set to enter the ₹200 crore club soon. It will be the actor's second film after "Chennai Express" to enter the elite club.
