This week, three films -- "Gulaab Gang", "Queen" and Total Siyapaa"-all belonging to different genres have released, but none of them opened on a big note.
"Gulaab Gang", "Queen" and "Total Siyapaa" were released in 1100, 1100 and 1600 screens respectively across India.
Madhuri Dixit Nene and Juhi Chawla starrer "Gulaab Gang" have opened to average response at mass circuits. The film which received mediocre reviews is targeted mostly at single screens.
Since the action thriller film has big stars it opened slightly better than the other two releases in India. High Court had initially stayed the release of the film. The court, however, lifted the stay order on Thursday evening.
Yet, the film suffered at the box offices on opening day, especially at the multiplexes. The stay order was lifted by Thursday evening which meant multiplex show times were formed very late, Boxofficeindia reported.
On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut starrer "Queen" opened to rave reviews, but it failed to garner audiences' attention on opening day. The morning shows received around 20 percent occupancy. It was only in the evening the shows picked up.
The third film "Total Siyapaa" starring Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam has also received the same response. The romantic comedy opened to a poor occupancy of around 10 percent.
"The dismal opening is being attributed to the exam fever that has gripped the nation, due to which students and the youth have steered clear of theaters. However, in the case of GULAAB GANG, the controversy over its release has severely affected the film's opening, since people seem to be confused whether the film has released or not," trade analyst Taran Adarsh said.
The box office run of all the three films-- "Total Siyapaa", "Gulaab Gang" and "Queen" --is expected to pick up during the weekend depending on the positive word of mouth.
