Three mid-budget movies - Karwaan, Mulk and Fanney Khan - which clashed at the box office on Friday, started off with terrible numbers at the domestic market. Their average occupancy was nearly 10 percent which had an adverse effect on its box office collections.
Fanney Khan starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao had a slight upper hand because of its storyline which revolved around a struggling father who helps his daughter to become a singer. The family appeal attracted a few moviegoers in theatres but they were left disappointed due to its poor execution on screen.
Karwaan starring Dulquer Salmaan, Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar had also suffered the same fate at the box office. The audience who watched the movie liked the unconventional road trip and were quite engrossed with the characters but it was not enough to rake in moolah at the ticket counters.
Mulk starring Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu came up with an intense courtroom drama which was lauded by the critics for dealing with a sensitive subject like religion. However, the audience chose to give it a miss as well.
All three movies earned just more than 4 crores each over their opening weekend which is a worrying sign for the makers as they failed to pull the audience in theatres.
