Shoojit Sircar's "Piku" has won the box office battle in its first week run at the box office. The box office success rate of "Piku" is tremendous and it is the only film this year that showed such growth in its ticket sales.
The film starring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan in the lead roles was released in 1300 screens in India on 8 May. With a decent opening of ₹5 crore, the film took its box office collection to whopping ₹41 crore in just seven days.
Not only weekends, but the film had good occupancy during weekdays too, adding it to its box office success.
"#Piku Fri 5.32 cr, Sat 8.70 cr, Sun 11.20 cr, Mon 4.40 cr, Tue 4.10 cr, Wed 4 cr, Thu 3.70 cr. Total: ₹ 41.42 cr. India biz. SUPER," trade analyst tweeted the first week box office collection of the film.
The storyline connected well with several audiences, which increased its repeat value. Also, the father-daughter jodi of Amitabh-Deepika impressed the moviegoers.
"Piku has shown yet again that content is king. The movie is all heart and we are glad that it has touched the right emotional chord," Sneha Rajani, Dy. President and Head, MSM Motion Pictures told The Times of India.
The overall first week box office collection of the film was very impressive, making it a hit film of 2015. The film will soon achieve the superhit tag, if it continues its marvelous run in its second week.
On the other hand, Sunny Leone's "Kuch Kuch Locha Hai" has been termed as "mega disaster" at the box office. The film barely collected ₹4 crore in its opening week and with the release of "Bombay Velvet", Leone's film will find it difficult to survive in its second week.
