Shraddha Kapoor-Arjun Kapoor's Half Girlfriend and Irrfan Khan's Hindi Medium clashed at the box office on May 19. Hindi Medium has proved the misconception that 'good stories don't work at the box office' wrong.
Though Mohit Suri's Half Girlfriend had a better opening than Irrfan's movie, the second week tells a different story. On Saturday (day 9), Hindi Medium witnessed a massive growth, while Arjun-Shraddha's movie's earning was below par.
Hindi Medium earned Rs. 4.21 crore on day 9 and its box office collection on day 8 was Rs. 2.82 crore. On the other hand, Half Girlfriend's collection on Saturday was Rs. 2.01 crore and day 8 it was Rs 1.76 crore.
Trade Analyst Tara Adarsh gave away the numbers on his Twitter handle.
Hindi Medium:
#HindiMedium witnesses MASSIVE GROWTH on Sat... [Week 2] Fri 2.82 cr, Sat 4.21 cr. Total: ₹ 32.24 cr. India biz.
Half Girlfriend:

It looks like Mohit Suri failed to create the magic he is known for with Half Girlfriend. Trade experts have predicted that Half Girlfriend's average performance at the box office may affect its business in the upcoming weeks and may also result in it being removed from many theatres across the country. The film also faces threat from the latest release, Sachin: A Billion Dreams.
Irrfan's movie received good word of mouth from the audience and critics. It deals with a social issue and everyone can connect to the story. Irrfan, Saba Qamar and Deepak Dobriyal have garnered appreciation for their performances in this film, which deals with the education system in India.
