Venkat Prabhu's Chennai 600028 II: 2nd Innings has opened to good reviews. The Tamil movie also made fantastic collection at the Chennai box office in its first weekend.
During the three-day opening weekend, Chennai 600028 II: 2nd Innings minted Rs 1.42 crore from 342 shows, Behindwoods reported. The pre-release hype, the success of the first instalment and good reviews helped the movie register phenomenal collections at the box office.
Trade experts were doubtful of the film's prospects as Tamil Nadu was yet to recover from the death of ex-Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. But this movie was given a grand welcome by fans. Moreover, the demonetisation issue did not affect the film to a great extent.
Saithan entered its second weekend by collecting Rs 39.67 lakh from 159 shows. In the first weekend, it collected Rs 1.47 crore from 250 shows. The 11-day collection the movie now stands at Rs 2.33 crore.
Hindi movie Befikre got a decent opening in Chennai, and the film collected Rs 29.27 lakh from 102 shows. It is followed by Telugu movie Dhruva, which raked in Rs 22.07 lakh from 102 shows.
Hollywood film Moana earned Rs 35.39 lakh from 51 shows. However, the business of Maaveeran Kittu got completely slowed down and it could collect only Rs 5.44 lakh from 42 shows to take its total tally to Rs 87.73 lakh.
Hindi movie Dear Zindagi had 24 shows in Chennai, from which it collected Rs 3.70 lakh to take its total to Rs 98.63 lakh. Hindi film Kahaani 2 entered its second weekend by making Rs 2.85 lakh. The 10-day total stands at Rs 38.45 lakh from 24 shows.
