"Bajrangi Bhaijaan", which was released on a non-holiday, has recorded the highest opening day box office collection for Salman Khan. Even though it was a pre-Eid release, Kabir Khan's directorial film opened to a phenomenal response.
But it failed to shatter its "Ek Tha Tiger" opening day box office collection record. Salman's highest opener record is still held by its 2012 Eid release "Ek Tha Tiger", which was also directed by Kabir.
"Ek Tha Tiger", which is Salman's second highest grosser, was released on 15 August in approximately 3300 screens. "Ek Tha Tiger" too was a pre-Eid release, but it earned whopping Rs 32.93 crore due to Independence Day holiday.
"Bajrangi Bhaijaan" was released on 17 July in 4500 screens, which is highest for Salman's film. But the film opened on a slightly lower note than expected. "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" earned Rs 21.25 crore on first day at the domestic box office.
"Bajrangi Bhaijaan" has surpassed the collections of most of Salman's films, including "Kick", but it remains to be his second highest opening day grosser until now.
