Akshay Kumar-starrer "Baby" saw decent growth on the second day at the domestic box office. The film, which hit the screens on 23 January, minted ₹9.3 crore and emerged as the highest first day opener of 2015.
It picked up momentum on the second day, thanks to positive word-of-mouth, raking in ₹11.17 crore on Saturday. The two-day collection stands at ₹20.47 crore.
The film is expected to surpass the opening week collections of Arjun Kapoor-Sonakshi Sinha's "Tevar" (₹32.64 crore) by Sunday. With Monday also a holiday due to Republic Day, the Akshay starrer is expected to end the four-day long weekend on a high note.
"#Baby witnesses robust growth across plexes. Collects ₹ 11.17 cr [early est] on Sat. Sun and Mon [Republic Day] should pack a solid punch," tweeted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Despite clashing with Sonam Kapoor's "Dolly Ki Doli," the Akshay-starrer has done good business at the box office. Although the film has not taken grand openings, it has kicked off on a decent note and likely to do well in the coming days, thanks to positive feedback from critics and the audience.
The Neeraj Pandey-directed film is an action thriller with Akshay playing the lead role. The film also has Danny Denzongpa, Anupam Kher, Rana Daggubati, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Taapsee Pannu and Kay Kay Menon in pivotal roles. "Baby" is about an Indian mission to pin down a dreaded terrorist.
Dolly Ki Doli
Sonam Kapoor's "Dolly Ki Doli" raked in ₹3.44 crore on the second day of its release. The film took poor openings on the first day, minting just ₹2.55 crore, but managed to see modest growth on the second day. Its two-day collections amount to ₹5.99 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.
Although "Dolly Ki Doli" has fetched decent reviews, the film has failed to see jump in collections on the second day. With Akshay's "Baby" getting good response at the theatres, the business of the Sonam-starrer might get affected in the coming days.
Directed by Abhishek Dogra, "Dolly Ki Dolly" is a romantic-comedy entertainer with Sonam playing the role of a young woman who cons men by marrying them and getting away with their wealth. The film also has Rajkummar Rao, Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma in supporting roles. Saif Ali Khan makes a special appearance.
