Naga Chaitanya-Samantha's "Autonagar Surya" has ended the first weekend on an average note.
The much-delayed political action drama hit the screens on 27 June and opened to mixed reviews from critics as well as from the audience.
"Autonagar Surya" minted approximately ₹2 crore share on the first day of its release in AP/Nizam areas. The film's collections dropped on the second day by around 50 percent. However, it performed better on Sunday and managed to earn decent revenues. The Chaitanya starrer is estimated to have earned around ₹4.25 crore from AP/Nizam share in its opening weekend, reported Andhraboxoffice website.
The film has failed to beat the opening weekend collections of the duo's last release "Manam," which earned ₹6.32 crore from AP/Nizam share.
"Autonagar Surya" had apparently run into financial issues, which delayed the film's release for more than a year. Expectations were high for the action entertainer prior to its release, thanks to its impressive trailers and dialogues. However, the film received average reviews from critics. Most of them said that the film raised hopes with the first half, but fizzles out in the second half.
Chaitanya's performance and the dialogues are major highlights of the film. But it has a few drawbacks including weak second half and violent scenes, according to the critics. To read the review roundup of "Autonagar Surya," click HERE.
Audience has also given mixed response to the film, which is evident from its collections. While the political action drama has ended the first weekend on an average note, it needs to be seen whether the film's collections will drop or will it manage to hold well during the weekdays.
"Autonagar Surya" will have four more days to mint decent collections, later it will be facing competition from new releases.
There are no biggies releasing this Friday, 4 July, but at least five projects including one dubbed film will hit the screens. Of these films, Sundeep Kishen-Regina Cassandra's romantic action entertainer "Ra Ra Krishnayya" and Ram Gopal Varma-Navdeep's "Ice cream" are the notable ones and they might release in good number of screens. These films might pose some threat to "Autonagar Surya" and affect its business prospects. Besides the new releases, films that have already released and successfully running in theatres such as "Manam" and "Indrudu" might also give competition to the Chaitanya starrer.
Directed by Deva Katta, "Autonagar Surya" has Rakul Preet Singh, Ajay, Sai Kumar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Brahmanandam, M. S. Narayana, Jaya Prakash Reddy and Brahmaji among others. The film's music is composed by Anoop Rubens, cinematography is handled by Srikanth Naroj and editing is done by Gautham Raju.
