Allu Sirish's "Kotha Janta" has performed better than Nayanthara's "Anaamika" at the US box office.
Both the films hit the screens on 1 May and received decent reviews from critics. However, "Kotha Janta" is doing well in India as well as in overseas markets, while the performance of "Anaamika" has not been up to the mark.
"Kotha Janta" has minted ₹16.31 lakh ($27,082) from 32 screens in its opening weekend at the US box office. On the other hand, the Nayanthara starrer has raked in only ₹9.33 lakh ($15,497) in its first weekend, reported Bollywood Hungama.
In India, "Kotha Janta" is holding well at the box office, whereas "Anaamika" is faring below par. It remains to be seen how these two films will perform in the coming days with Rajinikanth's magnum opus "Vikramasimha" hitting the screens on Friday (9 May).
The superstar starrer is gearing up for a massive release, which might reduce the screen count for the other films. This might affect the business of "Kotha Janta" as well as "Anaamika."
Directed by Maruthi, "Kotha Janta" is a romantic comedy entertainer that has "selfishness" as the theme. The film has Allu Sirish and Regina Cassandra in the lead roles, whereas other cast members include Rao Ramesh, Posani Krishna Murali, Sapthagiri and Rohini. The film received good reviews from critics, who had appreciated the director for doing a neat job in "Kotha Janta." The performances of the lead actors as well as the supporting cast also won accolades from the critics.
On the other hand, "Anaamika" is adapted from the Hindi thriller "Kahani." Nayanthara plays the protagonist in the film. She comes from the U.S. to India in search of her husband, who goes missing in Hyderabad. The thriller drama received mixed reviews from critics, though they all unanimously appreciated Nayanthara's performance in the film.
