This week there were multiple releases, but none of them fetched a good start at the box office. On the other hand, last week's release "Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty" has maintained a strong hold at the box office.
Among the new releases, only "Fugly" and "Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai" were known to audiences. However, both got mediocre reviews and failed to attract audiences.
"Fugly" features newcomers Mohit Marwah, Vijender Singh and Kiara Advani in lead roles. The film had a good start in the morning shows, but the negative reviews from critics affected the collections in the evening shows.
"Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai" starring Swara Bhaskar had a dismal start at the box office in India.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer "Holiday" has taken a flying start in second week, despite several releases.
The poor reviews of the new releases have helped the collections of "Holiday" in second week. Word of mouth is still strong in India and hence the film is expected to dominate the box office in its second week.
On second Friday, the film raked in ₹ 4.34 crore, taking its overall total to ₹ 73.03 crore.
"#Holiday [Week 2] Fri 4.34 cr. Grand total: ₹ 73.03 cr nett. India biz. Very Good," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The action thriller is now heading towards the ₹ 100 crore mark in India. "Holiday" has the potential to break the record of Salman Khan's "Jai Ho" and become highest grossing film.
The film will have uninterrupted second week run, but in third week Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor starrer "Ek Villain" will release, which might affect the box office collection of "Holiday".
Meanwhile, "Filmistaan" managed to fare well on the second Friday. Though the collection declined, the film still managed to mint some amount at the box office.
"#Filmistaan [Week 2] Fri 20.3 lacs. Grand total: ₹ 5.11 cr nett. India biz," Adarsh tweeted.
