Ajith's "Veeram" and Vijay's "Jilla" are continuing their successful streak at the worldwide box office.
According to film critic Kiaara Sandhu, "Jilla" has earned ₹88 crore at the worldwide box office, while "Veeram" has collected ₹75 crore in 10 days. Both films have turned out to be big hits in Ajith and Vijay's film careers.
While "Veeram" and "Jilla" are in a neck-to-neck race in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and the rest of India, the Vijay starrer has taken a huge lead in Kerala. Even in overseas markets, both films are doing well and are posing strong competition to each other.
On the whole, "Jilla" has raced past "Veeram" but the films' full run might be more or less in the same range, reported AndhraBoxOffice.
Both the action-packed entertainers are performing well in Malaysia, where Tamil films have a huge market. "Tamil films #Jilla and #Veeram are doing exceptional business in Malaysia," tweeted film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Both films are expected to have made good business in their second weekend (17-19 January). Details about the second weekend collections are not yet available.
The success of "Jilla" and "Veeram" should bring a sense of relief for those involved in film trade. The year 2014 has started off on a grand note for the Tamil film industry, with the release of two hits from two of the biggest stars of south Indian cinema.
Expectations have soared for upcoming films of Vijay and Ajith. While Vijay is set to work with director AR Murugadoss, Ajith is likely to commence his new project with Gautham Menon soon. Both Murugadoss and Gautham Menon are known for their craft and have given several hits for the Tamil film industry. This has generated a lot of hype among fans of the two leading actors.
