Action-packed entertainer "Arrambam" is continuing its dream run at the Malaysian box office.
The Ajith starrer has reportedly surpassed the $1 million mark in Malaysia. "Arrambam" grossed $227,380 in its second weekend, taking the toll to $1,359,407 (more than ₹8 crore) as of 10 November.
The film has grossed better collections than Bollywood film "Krrish 3", which grossed $102,707 at the end of the second weekend. However, the screen count for these films varies. While "Arrambam" is shown in 80 screens, "Krrish 3" is played in just 21 screens. Malaysia is one of the key markets of Tamil films where films of big stars perform well. Generally Tamil films do better business over other Indian films in the country, as Tamils reportedly constitute the largest percentage among Indian minority there.
"Arrambam" got the best ever opening minting close to ₹5 crore ($788,469) in its opening weekend (October 31 to November 3) at the Malaysian box office. The film opened at the second spot next to "Thor: The Dark World."
However, the Vishnu Vardhan directorial dropped to the fourth spot in the Malaysian box office chart. Karthi's "All in All Azhaguraja" (AAA) took the fifth spot grossing $456,341 (as of 10 November) from 40 screens. "Thor: The Dark World" still continues to rule over films from all over the world earning $6,908,684 from 219 screens.
"Arrambam" has also surpassed "Thalaivaa" collections in the country. The Vijay starrer had earned $1,202,959 from 60 screens in around 10 days, which is lesser than the collections fetched by the Ajith starrer.
The film has been doing good business in India as well as other key overseas markets. "Arrambam" has crossed "Singam 2", "Thuppakki" and "Thalaivaa" collections in the United States. The commercial entertainer is the fifth highest grosser of all Tamil films in the country next to "Endhiran", "Vishwaroopam", "Sivaji" and "Dasavatharam." The film's business in UK and Australia is also pretty good.
It is Ajith's biggest earner as well as got the best opening of all releases (till date) this year. In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, "Arrambam" has turned to be a big hit. In Karnataka, the film's business is going steady.
The Telugu dubbed version of the film titled "Aata Arrambam" will be releasing in the last week of November in Andhra Pradesh. Besides Ajith, the film has an ensemble cast including Arya, Nayanthara, Taapsee Pannu, Kishore, Mahesh Manjrekar and Atul Agnihotri.
