Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-starrer "Sarbjit" had an uninterrupted theatrical run on its second Friday, despite three new releases this week – "Phobia," "Waiting" and "Veerappan."
The new releases could have affected the box office collection of Aishwarya's film, but all the three films opened to disastrous response. "Sarbjit" witnessed a normal drop of 37 percent on the second Friday compared to Thursday. The film minted Rs. 1.10 crore on the second Friday, which took its eight days box office collection to Rs. 23.19 crore.
"#Sarbjit [Week 2] Fri 1.10 cr. Total: ₹ 23.19 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
On Friday, Adarsh tweeted the first week break-up of Aishwarya's film "Sarbjit." "#Sarbjit Fri 3.69 cr, Sat 4.56 cr, Sun 5.71 cr, Mon 2.37 cr, Tue 2.10 cr, Wed 1.91 cr, Thu 1.75 cr. Total: ₹ 22.09 cr. India biz."
"Sarbjit," which also features Randeep Hooda in the titular role, is all set to edge past the lifetime box office collection of Aishwarya's last film "Jazbaa." Directed by Sanjay Gupta, "Jazbaa" minted Rs. 25.23 crore from its box office run and now "Sarbjit" is all set to beat the collection record.
Omung Kumar's directorial "Sarbjit," is a biographical drama based on the life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh, who was convicted of terrorism by a Pakistani court. The film shows the struggle of Sarabjit, his sister Dalbir Kaur, who fought relentlessly for his release, and his family.
Aishwarya plays the role of Dalbir, Randeep portrays the character of Sarabjit, while Richa Chadha plays the role of his wife. The film also features Darshan Kumar in a pivotal role.
