Ajay Devgn's "Action Jackson" has crossed the ₹50-crore mark at the Indian box office.
The Prabhudheva directorial carried a huge pre-release buzz, but the film failed to live up to the expectations. "Action Jackson" fetched only ₹9.25 crore on first day, which was far less than Ajay's "Singham Returns," which had minted more than ₹40 crore on the opening day.
Negative reviews and poor word of mouth affected the film's business further and it managed to mint only ₹45.75 crore in its first week. Its nine-day collections amount to ₹50.05 crore at the Indian box office, according to Koimoi.
The film's collections have been witnessing drops in both single screens and multiplexes. Its business might drop further due to the release of Aamir Khan's "PK" on 19 December. The film might even end its business as "PK" might take up huge number of screens.
The Aamir-starrer is all set to have a big release on Friday, 19 December. The film is likely to be released in more than 3,000 worldwide. Advance booking for the film has already commenced in several areas including Mumbai, Delhi and Pune. There has reportedly been good response for the advance booking of the film.
"PK" is carrying huge expectations as Aamir has teamed up with director Rajkumar Hirani for the second time post the stupendous success of the film. Its teasers and the songs have generated a huge buzz surrounding the project.
The Aamir-starrer is expected to take fantastic openings on the first day. The Christmas holidays are likely to help the film fetch huge collections at the box office. Some of Aamir's past releases including "Ghajini," "3 Idiots" and "Dhoom 3" have set new benchmarks for Bollywood films.
"Ghajini" was the first film to cross the ₹100-crore mark, which has now become a passé. "3 Idiots" was the first film to enter the ₹200 crore club, while "Dhoom 3" is the all-time highest grossing Hindi film with more than ₹280 crore lifetime collections.
Now, all eyes are on "PK" and it needs to be seen if the film will be able to surpass "Dhoom 3" collections and set a new record by entering the ₹300-crore club.
Directed by Hirani, "PK" is a comedy-drama with Aamir, Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput in pivotal roles. Buzz is that Aamir plays an alien in the film, though there is no official confirmation in this regard. The film's team has kept the storyline a secret, which has built the curiosity about the Aamir starrer.
