After "Happy New Year", Aamir Khan's "PK" will hit screens at the Chinese box office. The highest grossing Bollywood film starring Aamir and Anushka Sharma in lead roles will release in China on 22 May.
The film will be released in 3500 screens, which is the second highest after Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year". Shah Rukh's "Happy New Year" film was released in China earlier this year in 5000 screens.
The grand premier of the film will take place on 13 May at Shanghai Art Center in China.
"#PK to release in China on 22 May 2015 across 3500+ screens. Grand premiere in China today [13th May] at Shanghai Art Center," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
In January, top officials from the China Film Group Corporation (CFGC) signed a deal to release the 350 crore earning Bollywood film in Chinese market. The officials found the story of "PK" unusual and hence invited the makers of "PK" to release their film in China.
"PK" will be Aamir's third film to hit the screens at Chinese box office, after "3 Idiots" and "Dhoom 3". Both the films created history in China and opened to a thunderous response.
"Dhoom 3" broke the record of Chinese film "No Zuo No Die" and entered in the top 10 list in China.
Meanwhile, "PK" is expected to beat the records of Shah Rukh's "'Happy New Year", which registered good opening weekend. But it remains to be seen, whether Aamir's latest release will create the same magic as his last two films did and shatter the records of "Happy New Year" in China.
"PK" directed by Rajkumar Hirani was released in India during Christmas, Aamir's lucky period, and it went to shatter all the box office records in India and overseas.
